👋 Welcome to Tellwell
Thank you for choosing Tellwell to help bring your book into the world. Publishing isn't always easy, but our team is here to support you with educational resources and friendly guidance every step of the way. A great place to start is our free 🧠Publishing Orientation Guide, which covers everything we think an author needs to know about indie publishing, drawn from the lessons learned by thousands of authors we've helped publish.
Every book needs quality editing, design, marketing, and distribution, and the services you've purchased will vary based on your goals, skills, connections, and budget. You can review the services included in your package under the Purchases tab in Octavo. You retain 100% control and ownership of your book, which also means you're responsible for its content, so we ask that you think critically and take your time with the tasks ahead.
If you need help at any point, you can:
- Log in to Octavo at portal.tellwell.ca to access your tasks and see the status of your project
- Type your question into the search bar at the top of our help centre
- Email support@tellwell.ca
- Book a call with your Project Manager
Top 5 tips for success
- You are your book's biggest advocate: embrace the challenge, do your own research, and remember, we're here to help every step of the way, but it's you who owns and is ultimately responsible for the content of your book.
- Make sure your manuscript is as clean and polished as you can make it before you submit it, even before editing begins (if it's included in your package).
- Read help materials carefully. Each task in Octavo has a help section with resources to support you. You can also search this help centre any time, or reach out to your Project Manager at support@tellwell.ca.
- Every book needs some form of editing and marketing to succeed. If professional support in these areas isn't within your budget, from Tellwell or elsewhere, we strongly encourage you to seek out and make the most of the free resources available to you.
- Wait until your book is distributed and you have a confirmed delivery date for any printed copies before committing to launch events, media appearances, or pre-orders. Rushing the publishing process to hit a date almost always means missed typos, last-minute revisions, or stock that doesn't arrive on time.
