All of Tellwell's publishing packages include Interior Design Layout, in which one of our designers will transform the author's manuscript into a professional book layout. For books that are made up entirely of text—most novels, memoirs, business books, etc.—this service will be limited to typesetting the manuscript.
However, many types of books will include other design elements beyond text, such as image placements, block quotes, tables, charts, footnotes, lists and formatted indexes, among others. We refer to these elements as design complexities, because they are more complex, and take more time than the more straightforward process of typesetting.
Each publishing package includes a certain amount of design time, which allows for some design complexities without incurring additional design time charges. No two manuscripts are exactly alike, but in general, each publishing package includes basic text layout and up to a maximum of 30 image placements, assuming the manuscript doesn't include additional complexities such as tables, block quotes, lists, etc.
If after reviewing a manuscript the Project Manager or Publishing Consultant determines that there are more complexities than what is included within the scope of design, the author will need to purchase extra design time for an hourly fee, or simplify and resubmit their manuscript.
