Changes to the Book's Content (fees apply)
If you find an error in your printed book, don’t worry—spotting errors post-publication is common throughout the publishing industry, even with traditionally published books.
For any post-publication revisions to your book's content, there is an additional cost per file (e.g. interior, paperback cover, hardcover cover, and/or ebooks). The fee includes editing the original design files, creating new print-ready files, uploading and proofing the new files with distributors, and any fees charged by the distributors.
For interior revisions, each round includes up to 150 text-based changes. For cover revisions, the fee includes minor text or design updates only, but not a full redesign from scratch.
The estimated timeline for the post-publication process is approximately 3-6 weeks from the time you submit your revision files. The steps involved are as follows:
- Payment: Payment is made for the relevant revisions (interior and/or cover, plus hardcover and/or ebooks if applicable).
- Final Draft Access: Your Project Manager will email you the Octavo task link(s) where you can download your final draft(s).
- Revisions Submission: You will mark up the draft file(s) with your revisions, then submit them through the Octavo design revision tasks.
- Designer Implementation: A designer will implement your revisions, and you will be sent a final draft to review and approve (or you may purchase an additional revision round if required). (1-2 weeks)
- New Channel Files: New channel files are created. (1-2 weeks)
- File Upload: The updated channel files are uploaded and proofed on each distribution channel included in your publishing package. (1-2 weeks)
Changes to Online Listings (free up to a limit)
You may also want to update your book's metadata, such as pricing, categories, or keywords, to enhance discoverability or adjust positioning in the market. These types of changes are not made to the physical book itself and one change every 90 days is included free as part of the Premium Support level. Updates can be requested by emailing support@tellwell.ca.
For example, you can request updates to:
- Pricing: Adjusting the retail price of your book.
- Categories: Changing the genres or categories under which your book is listed.
- Keywords: Modifying the search terms associated with your book to improve visibility.
Please note: None of the following can be changed on a book that has already been published unless a new edition is set up, which comes at an additional cost for a new publishing package:
- Title
- Subtitle (if with Enhanced Amazon)
- Pen name
- Ink color
- Trim size
- Binding
- Paper type (if with Enhanced Amazon)
- Submitting an entirely new manuscript with substantial (more than 10%) changes to content
