On the case laminate print-ready cover template, in order to have the cover appear as expected when printed (the same as the paperback edition), your designer will have centred both the front and back cover between the "Fold Lines" on the right and left, and the front and back edge of the spine.
However, Amazon and the distributor Ingram display the hardcover display images from the inside fold lines, all the way to the left and right edge of the cover template book, which is actually an inaccurate depiction of what the book will look like when printed, since the right and left ~.25" of the cover template is wrapped around the cardboard backing.
This means that how the hardcover front cover actually appears when printed is the same as the paperback front cover, despite the fact the display images appearing differently on the retail listing.
Fortunately, there is a fix! You can create your own Amazon Author Central profile, which will allow you claim your book listings and upload your own front cover image for the hardcover edition.
